WHAT IS ORGANIC AGRICULTURE?

Organic agriculture is the system of agriculture production that sustains the health condition of the soil fertility and productivity, the ecosystems and the people.
It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local environmental conditions rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. It is the farming method that involves none usage of inorganic chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, avicides, fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics and growth hormones but promote usage of more safer, healthier and environmental friendly close, suitable and appropriate organic substitutes.

Organic agriculture is an alternative agricultural system which originated in the 20th century in reaction to rapidly changing farming practices based on the effect on the environment and health of the people, it is now being encouraged and practised all over the world since it discovered to be better and safer compared to other methods, it is involves use of fertilizers of organic origin such as compost manure, green manure, farmyard manure etc. it emphasizes on techniques such as crop rotation and companion planting. Biological pest control, mixed cropping and fostering of insect predators are encouraged

Generally, organic agriculture promotes the use of naturally occurring substances which are deemed to be healthier and safe while prohibiting or strictly limiting the use synthetic substances which are found to be life threatening at the long run. This serves as an advantage because being healthy is paramount for all, other advantages are sustainability, openness, self-sufficiency, independence, food security and safety.

Organic agriculture methods are internationally regulated and legally enforced by nations, based in large part on the standards set by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) established in 1972. Presently, demand for and consumption of organically produced agricultural product is now on the increase.
