INVENTIONS IN AGRICULTURE


Necessity is the mother of invention so they said, farming, farm machinery, implement, and processes have continued to evolve year after year.
Combined harvester has replaced the threshing machine, swather has replaced grained binder, plows are now being used extensively. With these inventions of nowadays machineries and processes, farmers are now allowed to cultivate more acres of land and have more productivity than that of yester-years.

Some notable inventions in agriculture are:
  • Corn picker by Edmund Quincy in 1850
  • Cotton gin by Eli Whitney in 1794
  • Cotton harvester in 1850
  • Four year crop rotation by Charles Townsend in 18th century.
  • Grain elevator by Joseph Dart in 1842
  • Automatic hay baler by Innes of Davenport in 1936
  • Milking machine by Anna Baldwin in 1879
  • Plow by John Deere
  • Reaper by Obed Hussey and Cyrus H. McCormick in 1831
  • Gasoline tractors by John Froehlich in 1892
  • Seed drill by Jethro Tull
  • Thresher by Andrew Meikle in 1786
  • Portable steam engine in 1849
  • General purpose tractor in 1924
  • Hydraulic implement lift with draft control by Harry Ferguson in 1933
  • Combined harvester by Hiram Moore in 1834
  • Rubber tyres on tractors in 1920.
All these forelisted innovations and inventions among others has contributed immensely to the development of agriculture all over the world.
